JH Sayyar's Sonnets

The world’s woeful talk about me and you,
But after our death our true love will remain,
But you ignore me knowingly and your rue
Kills my poor love and give me darting pain,
Canker live in the rose, hidden in the flowers,
Your canker, pride dangerous to your being
Man’s canker lives in man’s wisdom power,
Ignoring time spindle that is swiftly fleeing,
Nice traits live in brain but lust in the eyes,
Honesty prolongs life, lie curtailing the days,
Goodness lives on earth when our soul flies
But after death the foolish on it keenly gaze.
I am ashamed of doing nothing for your will,
But alas! O Lady your will is more jealous still,
